WOMEN'S BASKETBALL tive Cable arrived mainly with the reputation of knowing how to guide victory, leading Mt. Lebanon High to three consecutive Pennsylvania Class AAAA state titles while posting an 85-8 record and averaging 12.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game in her career. Four different recruiting services ranked Cable anywhere from 52nd to 99th in the country in her class, and then stress fractures in both her feet led to a medical redshirt year as a fresh- man and into the shadows of much more prominent teammates such as Skylar Diggins, Kayla McBride, Nata- lie Achonwa and Jewell Loyd. Cable was the complementary figure who generally would lead the team in floor burns for her hustle, make the defensive stop, feed the key pass or suddenly hit a critical shot in her part- time role. Her signature moment was a re- bound of an air ball and put-back with a six-foot jumper with 20 seconds left in the 66-65 Final Four victory versus South Carolina last April to send Notre Dame to the championship game. This year, with Loyd turning pro a year early en route to WNBA Rookie of the Year honors, Cable has become what McGraw classified as "the team glue" on the floor and beyond. As the Irish headed to the Bahamas for the Junkanoo Jam during Thanks- giving weekend, Cable led the bal- anced team in playing time (26.8 min- utes per game) while averaging 13.8 points per game, second to Turner 's 14.3.
