NFL NOTES For games played Dec. 10-14 • Jacksonville Jaguars safety Sergio Brown (2006-09) recorded three tackles in a 51-16 win over the India- napolis Colts. • Baltimore Ravens quarterback Jimmy Clausen (2007-09) completed 23 of 40 passes for 274 yards with one interception in a 35-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. • Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert (2009-12) returned from being sidelined by a stinger the previous week to catch two passes for 42 yards before leaving with a concussion in a 33-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. • Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd (2008-11) caught five passes for 102 yards and one touchdown in a 23-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings. • Detroit Lions wide receiver TJ Jones (2010-13) caught four passes for 33 yards in a 21-14 loss to the St. Louis Rams. • Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick (2009-12) registered three carries for 18 yards and seven recep- tions for 44 yards in a 21-14 loss to the Rams. • Tennessee Titans defensive back Cody Riggs (2014) recorded two tackles and one pass defended in a 30-8 loss to the New York Jets. • Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph (2008- 10) snagged six receptions for 67 yards in the three- point setback to the Cardinals. • Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith (2007-11) did not play in a defeat at the hands of the Cardinals due to injury. • Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate (2007-09) caught nine passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to the Rams. • San Diego Chargers linebacker Manti Te'o (2009- 12) recorded five tackles in a 10-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. • Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Stephon Tuitt (2011-13) recorded two tackles and an interception in the 13-point victory over the Bengals. • San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ian Williams (2007-10) registered four tackles and one forced fum- ble in a 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. NBA NOTES Through Dec. 14 • Guard Jerian Grant (2010-15) has seen action in 24 contests for the 11-14 New York Knicks … Averag- ing 5.5 points, 2.5 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game. • Guard Pat Connaughton (2011-15) has played in six games for the 10-15 Portland Trail Blazers … Aver- aging 2.0 minutes and 0.8 points per contest. • The Knicks and Trail Blazers faced each other Dec. 12 in the first professional meeting between the rookies out of Notre Dame, but neither played in the 112-110 New York win. MLB NOTES Through Dec. 14 • Former Irish pitcher and wide receiver Jeff Sa- mardzija (2003-06) signed a five-year, $90-million contract with the San Francisco Giants. Samardzija, who had spent his entire career with the Chicago Cubs before a midseason trade to the Oakland A's in 2014 and subsequent deal to the Chi- cago White Sox last offseason, will return to the Bay Area in 2016. The 31-year-old had a rough season in the American League Central with an 11-13 record and 4.96 ERA in 32 starts. He posted 163 strikeouts and 49 walks in 214 innings, while leading the AL in home runs allowed (29) and all of baseball in earned runs sur- rendered (118). • Reliever John Axford (2002-05) signed a two-year, $10-million contract with the Oakland A's. Axford went 4-5 with a 4.20 ERA in 60 games for the Colo- rado Rockies in 2015. ✦
