Oct. 24: No. 1 Ohio State 49, Rutgers 7 Barrett earned his first start of the season over Jones and directed a rout, with the Buckeyes decimating Rutgers in a 42-point win. Barrett completed 14 of 18 passes for 223 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, in addition to 13 carries for 101 yards and two scores on the ground. Elliott added 142 rushing yards and two scores on 19 carries. Nov. 7: No. 3 Ohio State 28, Minnesota 14 Controversy returned when Barrett was suspended for the game after a misdemeanor citation for operat- ing a vehicle while impaired Oct. 31. Jones filled in by completing 12 of 22 passes for 187 yards with one touchdown. Elliott again surpassed the century mark in rushing yards, totaling 114 and a touchdown on 26 carries. Nov. 14: No. 3 Ohio State 28, Illinois 3 Barrett received the starting nod after returning from suspension to a mixed bag of results, completing 15 of 23 passes for 150 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Elliott again carried Ohio State, finishing with 181 yards and two touchdowns on 27 rushing attempts. The Buckeyes defense held the Illini to just 20 rushing yards on 25 attempts to seal the deal, advancing the Buckeyes to 10-0 on the season. Nov. 21: No. 9 Michigan State 17, No. 3 Ohio State 14 Ohio State's undefeated season came to a crashing halt in its first game of the year against a ranked opponent. Spartans kicker Michael Geiger nailed a 41-yard field goal as time expired to hand Michigan State the 17-14 victory. The Spartans defense stifled Ohio State, limiting Barrett to just 9-of-16 passing for 46 yards with a touchdown, and Elliott to just 33 rushing yards and a score on 12 carries. Nov. 28: No. 8 Ohio State 42, No. 10 Michigan 13 The Buckeyes bounced back from the Michigan State loss with maybe their best performance of the year, de- feating the Wolverines by 29 points on the road in Ann Arbor. Ohio State rushed for 369 yards behind 214 from Elliott (30 carries) and 139 from Barrett (19 carries), including a combined five rushing touchdowns. On the flip side of the ball, Ohio State's defense held the Wolverines to just 57 rushing yards on 25 attempts.
