INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS
year for our program. You can definitely make a strong case for what these kids
accomplished."
25 YEARS AGO, 1991: Anticipation continued building around the in-
coming "Fab Five" basketball class of head coach Steve Fisher. Jalen Rose, Chris
Webber, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson were all in the process of
making their way to Ann Arbor, amid unprecedented hype regarding a fresh-
man class at U-M.
Reaction kept rolling in, not only from pundits, but also from future foes and
even Fab Five members themselves.
"Oh man, they're going to be tough," noted Glenn Robinson, a Purdue signee
ranked with Webber at the very top of the incoming class. "They're going to be
great immediately. They're friends, and they play hard. When they come to West
Lafayette, the only thing we can do is get some bad refs and hope to cheat 'em."
"It's like one NBA team getting five first-round draft picks," insisted King. "It's
kind of neat. We haven't even played one college game yet, and we've already
made history."
