T he last few weeks have involved plenty of transition for the Michi- gan basketball program. Sophomore big man Ricky Doyle announced March 29 he would transfer, while se- nior guard Spike Albrecht was granted his release the same day. Doyle will have to sit out a year and will have two seasons of eligibility re- maining. Albrecht should be able to play immediately as a graduate trans- fer, if his surgically repaired hips allow. "Coach [John] Beilein took a chance on me and I will forever be grateful for that," Doyle said in a statement. "It was a difficult decision for me to make — however, I just feel this is the best decision moving forward." The 6-9 Doyle averaged 3.8 points and 12.2 minutes a game this season. He would have likely entered next season behind senior Mark Donnal and sophomore Moritz Wagner on the depth chart. "Ricky is a tremendous young man with very high character and plenty of potential to develop into being a fine college player," Beilein said. "We have enjoyed coaching him over the past two years and wish him nothing but the best."
