Ten ability, perhaps more. Chesson received first-team honors a year ago from the coaches, and Darboh showed this spring he's serious about joining him. Harbaugh's words have motivated him to take his game to another level. If there's anything his coach has taught him, Darboh said, it's that there's always a next goal to reach. Being on the same page with the new quarterbacks will be paramount in that pursuit. "Timing is key for the quarter- backs," Darboh said. "They have their jobs they have to do. For receiv- ers, you've got your steps you've got to take. Things don't always work as planned with a blitz coming and press coverage and all that. "Once you get the right timing and then if you're expecting the ball and the quarterback throws it when you're expecting it — you're open when he expects you to be open — that does a lot for your team." There's always the possibility that one or two of the freshmen will emerge, too, to battle for time. In- coming rookies Brad Hawkins, Nate Johnson and Eddie McDoom all have the skill sets to play early. The youngsters won't pass up the seniors, though, and they'd be wise to follow their example. If they de- velop the seniors' work habits to go with their obvious talent, the aerial assault in Ann Arbor should be fun to watch for the next several years. ❏ With last year's team MVP Jehu Chesson out this spring with an injury, fifth-year senior classmate Amara Darboh (pictured) proved he was more than capable of serving as Michigan's No. 1 wideout.
