OLYMPIC SPORTS Like most coaches, Bakich is more concerned with his team's play and progress than he is their record. Still, it is a very solid start, and as long as the team is improving he will take every win he can get. "A record is just a record, but we are trying to stay consistent in wins or losses," he explained. "When your team is playing well, it's just the little things. It's about energy, dugout par‑ ticipation, moving runners along, ex‑ ecuting in scoring position, making quality pitches — just all of those lit‑ tle different things to stay connected with each other, top to bottom." No one has bought in more than junior catcher Harrison Wenson. The 6‑3, 235‑pound slugger is hav‑ ing a career year, leading the team in home runs (four), RBI (32) and slug‑ ging percentage (.559), while rank‑ ing second in batting average (.363) and maintaining a perfect fielding percentage behind the plate. In ad‑ dition to the stellar play on the field, he echoes his coach's philosophy off of it. "We're a very good ball club, but we try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Wenson said. "Coach preaches going day to day and get‑ ting one percent better every single day. We don't really look at the over‑ all record much, but it's good right now. "I'm an energy giver. I really try to inject energy into other people and I feel like it's working. Behind the plate you need that characteristic, and I really worked on my matu‑ rity and my leadership over the past Junior catcher Harrison Wenson was lead‑ ing the team in home runs (four), RBI (32) and slugging percentage (.559) through 29 games, while ranking second in batting average (.363) and maintaining a perfect fielding percentage behind the plate.
