INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MICHIGAN'S TOP OLYMPIC SPORTS PERFORMERS Men's golf sophomore Kyle Mueller: The Athens, Ga., native continues to play the best golf of his career, recording his fifth top-10 finish in nine events this season when he took eighth at the Kepler Intercollegiate April 9-10. Mueller shot a 4-over-par 146 in the tournament, which was shortened from three to two rounds due to unseasonably cold temperatures, wind and rain. The second-year is averaging 71.78 strokes per round this year, which leads the team's regular starters. Softball senior Sierra Lawrence: The Snellville, Ga., native hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning of an 8-6 victory over Ne- braska April 10, giving Michigan the three-game series win (2-1). Lawrence went 6 for 11 on the weekend in Lincoln, hitting a pair of home runs while driving in five and scoring five times. She was second on the team this year with a .432 batting average through 33 games, and had seven home runs and 28 RBI. Women's tennis freshman Kate Fahey: The rookie from Fair Haven, N.J., has been dominant this year, going 10-1 at the No. 3 singles position and 6-0 at the No. 2 slot. She went 3-0 in singles play April 6-10, helping Michigan to wins over No. 8 Duke, Rutgers and Maryland to improve the Maize and Blue to 15-4 and 7-0 in the Big Ten. In the win at Duke, Fahey rallied from a first-game loss to win 2-6, 6-0, 7-5. Men's tennis sophomore Alex Knight: The Miami Shores, Fla., product helped lift No. 21 Michigan to a 6-1 start in Big Ten play after winning both of his singles matches in 4-1 and 5-2 victories over Minnesota and Wisconsin April 8-10. The triumph over the Golden Gophers was the program's first since 2010. Ranked No. 107 in singles play this year, Knight was 9-2 at the No. 2 singles position and 16-6 overall in dual matches. Water polo senior Ali Thomason: One of four seniors honored in Michigan's final home weekend of the year April 9, the San Ra- fael, Calif., native helped lead No. 8 U-M to wins over No. 16 Princ- eton and No. 13 Harvard. She had a goal, an assist and two steals in the 9-7 victory over the Tigers and then added four goals and four steals in a 10-5 win against the Crimson. Thomason led the team with 69 goals through 28 games.
