Michigan's Best Postseason Performers Since 2000 season goaltender in the Red Berenson era (1985-present), winning a greater percentage of his starts (.813) than any other netminder, while recording the lowest goals-against average (1.69) and greatest save percentage (.936). So who are some other standout playoff performers? Here is a look at the Wolverines' best during the past decade. 1. Forward Mike Cammalleri, 2000-02: In 20 career post- season games, the center had 14 goals and 14 assists, aver- aging 1.4 points per contest in leading U-M to Frozen Fours in 2001 and 2002. 2. Forward Jed Ortmeyer, 2000-03: A two-time captain, Fifth-year senior Shawn Hunwick may just be the best post- Ortmeyer blossomed as a junior and senior, contributing 11 goals and five assists in 15 games from 2002-03, including a pair of game-winners in four NCAA Tournament contests. 3. Forward Chad Kolarik, 2005-08: Though overshad- top playmaker in the past 10 years, Hensick had 19 assists to go along with 11 goals during 24 postseason games (1.3 points per game). 5. Goalie Al Montoya, 2003-05: Only Hunwick has posted a lower postseason goals-against average than Montoya (1.80) and a higher save percentage (.928) than the three- I don't think there is any reason for Shawn not to be mentioned right be- low Turco. "Being in that conversation is praise enough, and Shawn would tell you that he doesn't need to be considered No. 1 or No. 2 or No. 3. That doesn't mat- ter to him." If Hunwick can lead Michigan owed by classmate Kevin Porter, Kolarik proved more pro- ductive in the postseason with 29 points (12 goals and 17 assists) in 23 playoff games (1.3 points per game). 4. Forward T.J. Hensick, 2004-07: Arguably Michigan's year starter, who went 15-5-0 in 20 CCHA and NCAA playoff games. 6. Forward Kevin Porter, 2005-08: The 2008 Hobey Baker Award winner carried U-M in his senior season, scoring al- most half (six) of his 13 career postseason goals in leading Michigan to the Frozen Four in 2008. He finished his playoff career with 22 points in 23 games. 7. Forward Jeff Tambellini, 2003-05: Many fans still la- ment Tambellini's early exit after he notched six goals and four assists in six postseason games in his junior year, cap- ping a three-year career in which he had 10 goals and 13 helpers in 20 playoff contests. 8. Forward Louie Caporusso, 2008-11: Caporusso aver- aged 1.9 points per game during the Wolverines' 10 post- season contests in 2010, contributing eight markers and seven helpers, and he finished his career with 12 goals and 15 assists in 26 playoff games. 9. Defenseman Jack Johnson, 2006-07: Johnson made the most of his two seasons in Ann Arbor, contributing three goals and eight assists, with a plus/minus of plus-11, in 10 postseason contests. 10. Forward Carl Hagelin, 2008-11: Like Caporusso, Hagelin enjoyed a big junior campaign, netting five goals and six assists in 10 playoff games. Overall, he scored 11 goals and added 13 helpers in 28 games. — Michael Spath Rk. Goalie MICHIGAN'S ALL-TIME LEADERS IN WINS Through Feb. 14 1. Marty Turco 2.
