So in softball, U-M was awarded 14 points because it won the Big Ten in a sport with 14 teams. Mary- land was awarded six points in women's lacrosse because it won the conference title in a sport with six teams. Only Michigan and Ohio State compete in each of the Big Ten's 28 recognized sports, while Rut- gers participates in all 14 women's sports but does not compete in ice hockey, gymnastics, tennis, and swimming and diving on the men's side.
