INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MAIZE AND BLUE NOTEBOOK MIKE BOTTOM HEADED TO RIO Michigan head swimming coach Mike Bottom has been brought on to help mentor Team USA at the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as an assistant coach for the men's team. The announcement was made by USA Swimming National Team director Frank Busch before the start of the finals at the Olympic Trials. Bottom has been part of the last five Olympic Games as a coach. He originally planned on coaching U-M sophomore Mokhtar Al-Yamani, who is representing Yemen at the Games. This serves as Bottom's first-ever Olympic coaching stint for Team USA. Bottom has served as the head coach for Team USA twice at the World Univer- sity Games (2013 and 2015), and he also was an assistant coach twice at the FINA World Championships (2009 and 2013). MEN'S GOLF ADDS TRANSFER Michigan head golf coach Chris Witten announced that the team has added transfer Ian Kim, formerly of Idaho, who will be immediately eligible to play for the next two seasons. Kim earned All-Big Sky second-team honors and finished with three top-25 individual performances. He helped lead the Vandals to their second straight conference championship this past season. The Wolverines will lose three seniors to graduation and added two incoming freshmen. This was the first time in Witten's career at U-M that he has added a transfer to his team. EIGHT CURRENT WOLVERINES ATTENDING NHL DEVELOPMENT CAMPS The Michigan ice hockey team sent eight players to NHL Developmental Camps this summer. The NHL camps do not affect student-athletes' NCAA eligibility, and are de- signed to give players an NHL-caliber training camp. The team's draft picks, free- agent invites and prospects go through full practice and scrimmages, medical and fitness testing, team meetings, as well as team building activities. Current Wolverines James Sanchez, Brendan Warren, Jack LaFontaine, Sam Piazza, Griffin Luce, Zach Nagelvoort, Nicholas Boka and Will Lockwood will all attend team camps. Alumni attending camps include Steve Racine (Buffalo), Tyler Motte (Chicago), JT Compher (Colorado), Boo Nieves (New York), Justin Selman (St. Louis) and Kyle Connor (Winnipeg). — Brandon Justice
