PREP PROFILES Ohio Defensive End Is Still Considering The Wolverines The recruiting process is usually pretty predictable for kids from Ohio. If they get an offer from Ohio State, they usually end up with the Buck‑ eyes. If not, their recruiting status can be a little tougher to figure out. The latter is the current situa‑ tion with Toledo (Oh io) C en tral Catholic four‑star strongside defen‑ sive end James Hudson. The 6‑5, 271‑pounder does not hold an offer from the Buck‑ eyes, and Michi‑ gan might be the next best thing. It's the old adage in reverse — if you can't join 'em, beat 'em. The former Kentucky pledge decom‑ mitted from the Wildcats and reopened his recruitment just days before visiting Ann Arbor. U‑M held its second an‑ nual Aerial Assault Quarterback Camp June 18, and Hudson was on hand. He obviously wasn't a camper, but he did get a chance to hang out with the coaches and take everything in. He spoke about the experience a cou‑ ple of weeks after the trip. "The Michigan visit was just great," Hudson said. "I got to talk to Rashan [Gary] about how their program is, and I talked to Coach [Greg] Matti‑ son. Coach Mattison is definitely one of my favorite coaches. I like how he coaches his players. I got a chance to see him coach at the camp they had. I just liked how everything went." Hudson ended up being one of sev‑ eral recruits on campus, but still got a chance to mingle with the coaches and the nation's top 2016 recruit i n G a r y. T h e Wolverines are now squarely in the mix for his services among his top 10 that consists of Ala‑ bama, Kentucky, Louisville, Mi‑ ami, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Tennessee. Rivals. com Midwest recruiting analyst Josh Helmholdt has been all over Hud‑ son's recruitment and broke down how it's going after Hudson revealed his leaders. "Since official visits are part of Hud‑ son's recruiting game plan, his recruit‑ ment will stretch into the fall," Helm‑ holdt said. "The Rivals250 prospect said a decision will probably occur sometime during his senior season." Rivals.com's No. 8 strongside de‑ fensive end and No. 229 overall player in the country has more than 20 offers and is expected to see his profile con‑ tinue to grow. As it does, Michigan will be right there. — Brandon Brown ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Central Catholic H.S.
