INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS American and the Big Ten MVP his senior year. He finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting despite not having a prototypical passer at quar- terback in his final three years. He also became only the third NCAA Division I Football Bowl Sub- division athlete to total 1,000 career yards on both kick returns and punt returns, and he still holds the NCAA career record for highest average gain per play. Carter earned entry into the Col- lege Football Hall of Fame in 2001. He broke virtually every Michigan career pass receptions, kick return and scoring record, including touchdowns (40), points (244), receptions (161), yards (3,076) and touchdown catches (37), also a Big Ten record at the time. Student Athlete Of The Month Men's Golf Junior Kyle Mueller With very educated parents, Michigan junior golfer Kyle Mueller's path to become an exemplary student was a natural one. In the two years he's been at Michigan, he's been named to the Academic All-Big Ten team (2016), received the Golf Coaches Association of America Team Academic Honor (2016) and also is a two-time recipient of the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award. "The academic factor was half of it, if not more, honestly," Mueller said of his decision. "My parents always told me that I needed to find a school that fit both academically and athletically.
