INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MICHIGAN'S TOP SPORTS PERFORMERS Football senior Jourdan Lewis: The rising senior cornerback had a career year in 2015 and people have taken notice. He was ranked No. 7 among Pro Football Focus' top 101 college football players, and also made the preseason watch lists for the Nagurski Trophy and the Bed- narik Award (both presented to the top defensive player in the country). PFF also named Lewis the best cornerback in college football. He was targeted 90 times and allowed just 33 completions for 416 yards and a touchdown last year, according to the website, which credited him with a na- tional-best 15 passes defensed (although those numbers differ from the official statistics kept by U-M and the NCAA). Swimming alumnus Connor Jaeger: The illustrious ca- reer of one of Michigan's most popular athletes has taken a big leap. The former Wolverine swimmer is officially part of Team USA and will be competing in the Rio Olympic Games in two races. He last competed in the Olympics in 2012, placing sixth in the 1,500-meter race. In 2016, he will take on a new event (the 400) and has a chance to bring a medal back to the States from Brazil. Golf senior Grace Choi: An All-Big Ten first-team se- lection, Choi has been named a Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar. She finished her final season with a 73.75 per round average — the second- best single-season mark in program history. Choi tied the school records for single-round score, with a 65 (7-under par), and for U-M's 54-hole tally at 205 (11-under). She also posted the school's 36-hole record with a 139 (5-under) and became the first Wolverine to finish under par at a 54-hole Big Ten Tournament with a score of 215 (1-under). Volleyball junior Katherine Mahlke: The third-year Wolverine is headed to train and compete in Europe after being selected to the U.S. Collegiate National Team. The squad will train in Europe from July 6-16. The trip will take them to Milan, Italy, and Pula, Croatia, to face two teams from those countries, as well as train with them. Mahlke appeared in 29 matches and made 14 starts for Michigan in 2015. She finished with a career-high five blocks against George Washington and notched a career-high .458 attack percentage in U-M's victory over Michigan State.
