Michigan featured a host of female
freshmen who snagged an early
spotlight, due to their immense tal-
ent combined with just the right op-
portunity. Here's a look at a handful of
U-M frosh that excelled during their
first campaign in maize and blue:
1. Hallie Thome, women's basket-
ball — Thome traveled north out of
Chagrin Falls, Ohio, without the slight-
est bit of chagrin over asserting her-
self early on for the Wolverines. She
made the Big Ten All-Freshman Team,
earned honorable mention on the
overall All-Big Ten squad, and showed
plenty of signs that she'll be a force
for Kim Barnes Arico and her squad for
years to come.
The rookie rarely missed an oppor-
tunity, finishing second in the nation
Michigan's Other Top Female Rookies
Center Hallie Thome started all 35 U-M games, averaged 14.4 points and 5.4 rebounds
per game, and ranked second nationally in field goal percentage (63.1).
