"It was 2006 and we played Arizona; it was also informally the first year for the 'Hoo Crew that we
know now, and the energy that night was really something else," she recalled.
Their active 'Hoo Crew days were magical, but they soon felt the need to financially support Virginia
athletics. Doing so for the last 12 straight years, they look forward to giving as much as possible in the
future.
Sitting in their seats at JPJ, David observed that "a lot of people we see at our donation level or even sit-
ting similar to ours aren't exactly our peers. I hope more young people will become involved with the VAF
earlier in their time at the university."
David and Christina are avid fans of many of UVA's sports programs including women's basketball,
soccer, lacrosse and volleyball. When unable to use all of their tickets, they donate them to the Big
Brothers Big Sisters program.
"It's been neat to see our tickets going to good use," Christina said. "I get feedback from Big Brothers
Big Sisters … their Bigs love taking their Littles to the games. It's a great opportunity to give them a
chance to go to these games."
"Game tickets are an easy gift to give, and they have a maximum impact," David added.
Whether hanging out with Big Brothers Big Sisters or other charities, he and Christina have aspired to
inspire by example, showing others how much brightness you can bring to young lives in need. That's the
spirit of true Wahoos.
