"I think the intellectual side of her has probably been overshadowed because of her athletics, but if you don't know her writing or acting then you're missing a part of who she is," Stewart said. Collins said it's that total experience that she will take away from her time at UVA. "You look at the coaches, and they're experts at tennis," she said. "You look at the professors that I had. They were some of the greatest experts in the country in their field — politics, foreign affairs, medicine or media studies. "I think Charlottesville is such an incred- ible place because you have the best of the best people. You have some the best people in the academic world and in the sports world." ◆ BEST OF THE REST Leah Smith, swimming and diving — The third-year star continued her impressive career by qualifying for the Rio Olympics in the 400-meter freestyle, 800-meter freestyle and 4x200-meter freestyle relay. The All-American selection won NCAA championships in the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle events. Julia Elbaba, tennis — The fourth-year capped off her incredible UVA career by setting the school career record in singles wins with 133 while earning All-America honors in singles at the NCAA Championships, advancing to the round of 16. She was named first-team All-ACC for a school-record fourth time. Tara Vittese, field hockey — The third-year midfielder claimed the 2015-16 Longstreth/Na- tional Field Hockey Coaches Association National Player of the Year award, the first-ever Cavalier to win the honor and the third ACC player selected. She also earned first-team All-America honors, leading UVA field hockey with 39 points while finishing third in the ACC in points and goals per game. Lauren Coughlin, golf — The fourth-year became the second Cavalier to earn ACC Player of the Year honors. In addition to winning the ACC individual title, she finished second in conference with a 72.29 stroke average and posted six top-10 finishes. Sam Casto, rowing — The fourth-year team co-captain earned All-America and All-ACC ac- colades at the bow seat of the varsity eight that placed fifth at the NCAA Championships, and claimed the ACC title and conference Crew of the Year honors. — Greg Waters "They pushed me every day and worked with me on the things I needed to do to grow as a tennis player and as a person."
