doubt they have to schedule it. So why does Penn State need to sched- ule a White Out? I understand that it can get cold in Pennsylvania in November, but I would imagine that if one were to go to most local men's apparel stores or department stores, one could purchase cheap plain white T-shirts large enough to fit over our orange hunting suits. I know that Penn State always schedules the White Out for the big home game of the year, but in college football, isn't every game important? Don't you need to fin- ish 12-0 to have a chance at the national title? I would also like to point out that the football team has more than 100 players on it and that a big percentage of these players go to every workout and practice session and bust their asses to get the first team ready to play in every game. These players will only see playing time in blowout wins that we have against the weaker teams on the schedule. My question here is, don't these players deserve a chance to play in front of a White Out? Shouldn't they be able to walk away from their Penn State careers and say "I played in front of a White Out at Beaver Stadium with the best crowd in college foot- ball cheering me on"? I would also like to remind every fan who is attending a game that at any given time, a prospective recruit may be in attendance. These recruits should have the privilege of witnessing the greatest show in college football on every home Saturday no matter who we are playing. I would like to encourage all fans attending any Penn State athletic functions to always wear white. Penn State has the best women's volleyball program in the country, and a two-time defending national champion wrestling program that I am sure would appreciate the sup- port, as would all of our intercolle- giate athletic programs. Y ou'd like to think that simple hu- man decency would prevent some- one from attacking a 19-year-old student on the Internet just for miss- ing a few field goals in a college foot- ball game. You'd like to think that the part of the brain that allows hu- man beings to feel shame would kick in at some point and prompt a mo- ment of reflection in which one might say to oneself, "I am about to flame a kid who probably feels pretty lousy right now. I am not this big of a jack- ass." Failing that, you'd like to think that all Penn Staters would under- stand that they are under a micro- scope and ought to avoid doing any- thing to confirm all those nasty charges the NCAA made about the university's football culture having run amok. You'd like to think those things, but after the Nittany Lions' 17-16 loss at Virginia a few weeks ago, in which Sam Ficken missed four of five field goal tries, a few disappointed fans went berserk. The social media as- sault contained insults so crude they
