Mission Statement The Virginia Athletics Foundation, through its fundraising efforts, strives to support a preeminent intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Virginia by providing student- athletes the opportunity to achieve academic and athletic excellence. Virginia Athletics Foundation P.O. Box 400833 Charlottesville, VA 22904-4833 (434) 982-5555 | (800) 626-8723 (434) 982-5025 FAX www.VirginiaAthleticsFoundation.com Dear Cavalier Fans, The summer months on Grounds have been busy with student-athletes taking summer courses and training with their respective teams. It won't be long before the fall seasons begin and we embark on another academic year. The summer also provides our staff with a few days to relax and some time to reflect on the first six months of our fundraising year. This year is by far our most challenging fundraising year to date, with a $19.2 million goal and two facility fundraising projects underway. We are close to finishing the fundraising for the baseball stadium renovation ($11.3 million committed) and the golf practice facility ($5.3 million committed) at Birdwood Golf Course. It will be important for us to complete the fundraising over the coming months so these projects can progress as quickly as possible through the construction phase and be available to our student-athletes on time. For more information on both projects, as well as, all future facility projects, please visit www.allinforexcellence.com. The Annual Fund is on the same pace as 2016 and we need to move well ahead of that pace for the remainder of this year. Over 6,500 donors have already made a pledge for the year with 28% (1,864 donors) increasing their pledge by 10% or more over last year. This level of increase continues to be an impressive percentage of the donor base and we are grateful for this support. There is always an opportunity for those who have not increased their pledge to do so by the end of the year. Last year, we finished with 31% (2,926 donors) who had increased their pledge by 10% or more. Each spring we have an opportunity to benchmark our progress against our peers and we annually review results within the ACC. Last year, the ACC schools raised over $378 million in all categories of fundraising — annual fund, endowment, facility gift and operational support. Below are some highlights of how Virginia compares to other ACC schools. • 4th in total fundraising across all categories (Louisville was the highest) • Annual fund total was the 5th highest behind Clemson, Louisville, Florida State and Duke (Clemson raised $29 million) • 7th highest number of donors (Florida State had the highest with 20,903) • 5th largest scholarship endowment (North Carolina has the largest at over $200 million) • All schools continue to have facility projects either underway or in the planning stages I am always hopeful that we can climb the fundraising rankings within the ACC, which is traditionally one of the most respected fundraising conferences in the country. However, our ultimate focus is to reach our goals each year and provide the very best experience for our student-athletes. We are thankful for each of our donors who help us achieve these goals. Thank you for all of your support of Virginia Athletics. Best regards, Dirk P. Katstra Executive Director Like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/VirginiaAthleticsFoundation
