DECEMBER 2017 29 Tee It Up Golf Tournament VAF hosted its annual Tee It Up Golf Tournament to benefit the Virginia Men's and Women's Golf programs on September 29 at Full Cry at Keswick Hall and Golf Club. Men's and women's golf alumni, donors and fans participated in the tournament for the 7th year. Members of the golf teams played with each of the 15 foursomes, giving partici - pants a chance to get to know the outstanding student-athletes who are fine representatives of the University and Virginia Athletics. The event featured an organized lunch, best two ball format and a post tournament awards reception. This year's tournament featured a new "Closest to the Hole" put- ting contest at the turn led by women's golf coaches Kim Lewellen and Calle Nielson and a "Closest to the Pin Challenge vs. Coach Sargent" on a par 3 led by men's golf head coach Bowen Sargent. Congratulations to the tournament's winning foursome pictured at top right. The golf programs are very appreciative of the participants and generous sponsorships that helped raise record-breaking proceeds for their programs. Foundry Golf Tournament The 2017 Foundry Golf Tournament was held at the Foundry Golf Club in Richmond on October 2. With a huge thank you to the hard work of Coley Wortham and Bob Mizell, this year's 13th annual event was a tremendous success. Coley and Bob dedicate hours every year to recruiting Richmond area participants. The day kicked off with lunch followed by the introduction of men's golf head coach Bowen Sar- gent, women's golf head coach Kim Lewellen and members of the UVA golf teams. Team members paired with each of the foursomes in a scramble format. Participants enjoyed a beautiful day for golf and a post tournament awards reception. Congratulations to the proximity winners, in particular Marlene Mizell with a hole in one on #7, and the winning team Davenport & Company LLC pictured above. Proceeds from the tournament directly benefit the men's and women's golf teams. Thank you to everyone for their participation and support of the Virginia Golf programs. event recap UVA men's and women's golf teams pose together at Keswick Hall & Golf Club. Homecomings 2017 In celebration of UVA Homecomings, the Virginia Athletics Foundation presented student-athlete alumni with complimentary tickets for the UVA Football game vs. Boston College on Saturday, October 21. Over 1,000 UVA student-athlete alumni and their guests registered to attend the game and other University events throughout the weekend. It was exciting to see a record number of "Cavaliers for Life" return to Grounds to spend time with former teammates, coaches and friends. The support of student-athlete alumni is essential to continued excellence both on and off the field.
