And if all the career goals stay afloat, Yeadon will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for the 2020 games in Tokyo, Japan. "We'll have to take all this one step at a time," Yeadon said with a laugh. The 2018-19 Notre Dame swim sea- son only recently began, and Yeadon is already piling up wins and honors. At a dual meet versus Georgia Tech in October, Yeadon recorded three wins that included an NCAA-best time so far this season of 15:17.10 in the 1,650 freestyle (the mile) that earned him ACC Male Swimmer of the Week. "One of the big keys to mov- ing the ball forward is understanding what we did last year and how we can improve," Bell said. "How can we improve the details of each race?" The fact that Yeadon even competes at Notre Dame is somewhat unex- pected because the Irish coaches didn't pursue him until late in the recruiting cycle, well after he had narrowed his college choices down to Northwestern and North Carolina State. But a last- minute decision to visit Notre Dame, on the urging of the Irish swimming coaches, changed everything. "The campus is so beautiful, I liked all the team members and when they found out I was a distance swimmer, they all told me that Coach Bell was the best distance coach in the busi- ness," Yeadon explained. "I couldn't be happier with my decision." Neither could the Notre Dame swimming family. ✦ Vintage Notre Dame Memorabilia Augie's Locker Room ND Stadium Items, Jerseys, Helmets, Autographs and One of a Kind Rockne Items. Notre Dame boasted three top-10 finishers in its eight-kilometer race, led by sophomore Yared Nuguse in third place. In addition, senior Anthony Williams crossed the finish line sixth, freshman Danny Kilrea placed 10th and sophomore Andrew Alexander came in 16th to give the Irish four All-ACC performers. After starting the season receiving no votes for the top 30 of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, the Irish ascended to No. 10 Oct. 30. It is the first time since 2007 the Irish have been ranked in the top 10. "We are going to continue to build on our mo- mentum throughout this season and buy into the program," assistant coach Sean Carlson told UND. com. "If we continue to focus on the process, the results and rankings will take care of themselves." Next up, Notre Dame will compete at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Nov. 9 in Terre Haute, Ind. WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY No. 18 Notre Dame narrowly missed matching the men with a league title, finishing second just one point behind NC State at the ACC Champion- ships Oct. 26 in Boston. In addition, junior Rachel DaDamio came in sixth, freshman Jackie Gaughan crossed the finish line in seventh and senior Jessica Harris placed 14th. All of Notre Dame's first four finishers earned All-ACC accolades, plus Gaughan received ACC Freshman of the Year honors for being the top rookie in the race.
