35 games last year, Wolfe still averaged only 12.4 minutes, 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per outing. Rather then get discouraged by the limited playing time, however, she chose to learn from the experience and build off of it. "The first two years really got me comfortable," said Wolfe, a kinesiology major who hopes to work in sports medicine. "Last year with [Boyle] really got me in touch with the offenses and defenses they are trying to establish — it really got me to what type of player she can be in league play in Virginia's 58-52 loss to Miami Jan. 6. Only six players scored for the Cavaliers that day, but Wolfe's game-high 18 points kept UVa in the game right down to the last minute. Her six steals also marked a game high and proved that she can do more than score to help out her team. "She really works on her game; she's a gym rat," Boyle said. "Her impact on this team has been huge. Her confidence is a big factor, and when her "Her impact on this team has been huge. Her confidence is a big factor, and when her shot isn't falling she can do other things to make her team better." Head coach Joanne Boyle on Wolfe transition into this season." During the first half of her third-year campaign, the 5-10 Wolfe has come into her own. She started each of the first 16 games and had already played more minutes (485, 30.3 per game) then she did either of her first two seasons. She was tied with fellow third-year Ataira Franklin for the team lead in scoring at 12.3 points per game, and was also averaging 4.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. After scoring just five points in each of Virginia's first two ACC games, Wolfe showed shot isn't falling she can do other things to make her team better." After not starting a game in her first two seasons in Charlottesville, Wolfe was one of two Cavaliers to start each of the first 16 games this campaign. Despite the increase in production and playing time, Wolfe wasn't expecting this type of drastic change from her first two years on campus. "I didn't really come into the season looking to be a main option," Wolfe said. "In the flow of the game, when the opportunity presents itself, I feel I have taken it and done well with it." And she did exactly that right from the get-go this season. In a 68-65 win at Penn Nov.  12, she poured in a career-high 22 points and dished out six assists. Seventeen days later, she guided the Cavaliers to a 90-68 win at Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge by topping her career high with 25 points while also compiling six rebounds, three assists and three steals. "That game was a big confidence booster for me," Wolfe said of her career night against the Golden Gophers. "I was attacking the rim and making layups, but also hitting my outside shot — it just helped my overall confidence." Wolfe's strong play — she also compiled 24 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals in a 78-59 win over NC State Jan.  13 — helped the Cavaliers to an 11‑5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the ACC heading into mid-January. "She's a work in progress like the rest of us, but I'm really pleased where she is right now," Boyle said. "I love her role right now, but I think if she maintains her confidence and adds more things to her game, she will continue to be a starter for this team. "When her shot isn't falling, she's great at doing other things for this team to make us better." ◆
