cavalier profile Sean Singletary Alum • Basketball Since graduating from Virginia in 2008, Sean Singletary has played basketball in the NBA, Spain and Belgium. Right now, he plies his trade with the NBA Development League's Texas Legends. Through 11 games, he was averaging 10.7 points, 6.3 assists. 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals — solid numbers considering the 27-year-old point guard is now healthy after battling injuries for the last three seasons and his focus is on returning to the NBA, where he last played in 2009. Singletary has been in the D-League before, playing three games with Sioux Falls in 2009, but this stint is different. "I didn't stay there for long," he said. "I haven't played a full season in about three years. It's a matter of getting back in front of coaches, everybody seeing that I'm healthy and can play. I'm good to go. It took a long time [to get healthy], but better late than never." He returned stateside after spending three years over- seas, an experience with its plusses and minuses. "It was pretty rough. It was a culture shock," Singletary said. "You're away from family. I had a lot of things going on at home while I was over there, so it was a real stressful situation. "I view it as a learning experience and I wouldn't change anything I went through." And even though he was injured for much of his time abroad, he used his time there to improve his game. "I definitely did get a better understanding of how to play," Singletary said. "I never really learned how to pass until I got injured because the game slowed down for me. "I couldn't move as fast as I wanted to so I had to learn other ways to be effective." Former NBA veteran Eduardo Najera is his current head coach and is glad to have him on his roster. "He's a guy that makes the team go. I'm happy that he's with us," Najera said. "His basketball IQ is very high. "He's on the same page with me and it's almost like he's reading my mind every time down the floor." — Steve Hunt ◆ Photo by Sergio Hentschel/ courtesy NBAE/Getty Images
