The Wolverines crushed Northwestern 192108 Jan. 12 in South Bend, Ind. "In our meet against Notre Dame and Northwestern, we watched our women's team step up and do things, athletically, that got us excited," Bottom said. "Whether it was two-foot jump starts in the relay or great finishes or turns or technique in our strokes, we are seeing the transformation over the course of the year. And I think the women's times will reflect that, over the course of the season." On Jan. 18, the Wolverines notched their biggest win of the season, upsetting then-No. 15 Ohio State 163‑137. Bicek, who won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:02.97) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.67), and junior Angela Chokran, who won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.68) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.33), led the way. "It's been a solid transition," Feeley said. "The women's team has adopted a new culture, and they're really starting to show improvement. They have been showing personal-best times at the Iowa meet, so it's exciting to see them buy into the program, when really this was thrust upon them in the middle of the summer." ❑
