Michigan is the top school in the Big Ten, and is looking for its 14th top-10 finish in 20 years of Directors' Cup standings. The athletic department placed second in 2003-04 and third in 1999-2000. The Wolverines had a twodecade-worst showing in 2009-10, placing 25th, but improved to 15th in 2010-11 and 10th in 2011-12. U-M hasn't had a start like this in recent campaigns, though, earning just 93 points three years ago, 213 points two years ago and 272 points last year. In finishing 10th in 2011-12, the Maize and Blue earned 394 points with its winter sports and 333.5 in the spring. This winter, Michigan is poised for strong performances in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's swimming, and wrestling, while the indoor track programs should contribute as well.
