Life wasn't as always as charmed
as it now seems for New England
Patriots and former Michigan punter
Zoltan Mesko. He was only 3½ years
old when he lived in modest quarters
in Romania at the height of the coun-
try's revolution in 1989, but he can
recall gunfire on Christmas Eve that
left stray bullet holes in his family's
balcony. His parents each brought
home about $100 a month when food
didn't cost much less than it did in
the United States.
