  inside michigan athletics Michigan's Top Olympic Sports Performers Women's swimming and diving freshman Marni Oldershaw: Twice a recipient of Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors this season, Oldershaw holds the top time in the conference in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.25) and sits fourth in the 400yard medley (4:13.36). The Oakville, Ont., native helped U-M to a team win at the Orange Bowl Classic Jan. 3 with her victories in the 50-meter breaststroke (32.79) and in the 200-medley (2:16.73). Men's swimming and diving senior Sean Fletcher: The Vienna, Va., native was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Jan. 8 after earning two individual wins and a relay victory at the Orange Bowl Classic Jan. 3. Fletcher placed first in the 50-meter butterfly (24.10) and backstroke (25.78) events, and was part of the winning 200-meter medley relay team (1:37.85). Wrestling freshman Taylor Massa: The St. Johns, Mich., native continues to perform at a high level in his true freshman campaign, going 2-0 in his first two Big Ten dual meets in January matchups with Nebraska and Wisconsin. The 165-pounder has a team-high 17 individual victories this season and only five losses, and is ranked No. 12 nationally at 165 pounds by Intermat. In his win against the Cornhuskers' Austin Wilson, Massa needed just 45 seconds to pin his opponent, and now has five falls this year. Women's gymnastics sophomore Sachi Sugiyama: Ranking eighth in the country with a top uneven bars score of 9.875, and 13th on floor exercise with a 9.888 score, the Texan has already earned three individual event victories this season. Sugiyama placed first on the uneven bars at the Cancun Classic (9.850) Jan. 4 and in a dual meet with Nebraska (9.900) Jan. 12, and also took first on floor in the Classic. Additionally, she took second in the all-around competition. Women's track and field junior Amber Smith: The Cleveland, Ohio, native is off to a strong start in hurdles, placing first in the 60-meter race at the Wolverines' initial meet in 2013. Smith clocked 8.39 seconds at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open Jan. 11, and posted the exact same time at the Red Simmons Invitational Jan. 19, winning both races.
