Beilein's beefed-up crew stood third in the Big Ten in rebounding margin, collecting an average 8.4 stray shots more than opponents. Indiana, at a plus-11.1, topped the league. The Wolverines were dead last in the Big Ten in shot blocking, averaging 2.8 swats per game, far behind league leader Minnesota (6.4). Michigan ranked ninth in average steals (5.5), with the Gophers (9.6) leading that category as well. Michigan stood fourth in the Big Ten in average assists (15.9), less than one per game behind league leader Iowa (16.5). U-M was also fourth in turnover margin (plus-2.50), with Wisconsin leading the league (plus-3.67). The Wolverines paced the pack on assist-to-turnover ratio, at 1.6. They also averaged 8.6 three-pointers made per contest, better than any other team in the league. Individually, here is how the Wolverines stood in the Big Ten as of Jan. 21: • Sophomore guard Trey Burke and junior guard Tim Hardaway Jr. were third and fifth, respectively, in the Big Ten scoring race. Burke averaged 18.0 per game and Hardaway 16.4, Burke trailing only Ohio State's Deshaun Thomas (20.8) and Illinois' Brandon Paul (18.2). Freshman wing Nik Stauskas (12.6) and freshman forward Glenn Robinson III (12.1) were among the league's top 25, at 20th and 22nd, respectively. Robinson was tied for 18th in the Big Ten in rebounding (5.8 average), with freshman forward Mitch McGary 20th (5.7). • Redshirt junior center Jordan Morgan stood second in the league in field goal percentage (63.5), behind only Indiana's Victor Oladipo (66.4). Robinson (57.7) held down sixth place, and Burke (50.8) 15th. • Burke led the league in assists by a wide margin, his 7.2 average well ahead of the 4.8 average established by Indiana rookie Kevin (Yogi) Ferrell. Burke was also fourth in the Big Ten in free throw shooting (80 percent), while Stauskas ranked second (82.6 percent) and Hardaway 15th (73.6 percent). Indiana's Christian Watford (85.9 percent) led the league. • Stauskas also trailed only one Big Ten player in three-point field goal percentage, his 49.5 mark just behind that of Indiana's Jordan Hulls (51.2). Bruke checked in at No. 11 in the league (40.0) and Hardaway No. 14 (39.3). Stauskas averaged 2.6 three-pointers per game, behind only OSU's Thomas (2.8), with Hardaway 10th (1.9) and Burke tied for 11th (1.9). • Burke hovered near the league lead in assist-to-turnover ratio, his 3.8 mark behind only that of Ohio State's Shannon Scott (3.9). • Robinson picked off an average 2.3 offensive rebounds per game, good for eighth in the Big Ten, while McGary was 11th (2.2). Hardaway's average of 5.1 defensive rebounds per contest placed him fifth in the conference. • Burke and Hardaway were eighth and ninth, respectively, in the Big Ten in average minutes played, at 33.6 and 33.5. ❑
