Finally, the Offense-Defense Bowl was actually the first game to take place, kicking off Dec. 30 in Houston. Two Michigan prospects participated in the game, but no Wolverine commitments. There were some strong performances — and room for improvement — among the many players of U-M interest who participated. U.S. Army All-American Bowl Four Michigan commitments were selected to the Army game. Pickerington (Ohio) North tight end Jake Butt and Alliance (Ohio) Marlington safety Dymonte Thomas played for the East team, while Parker (Colo.) Ponderosa offensive lineman Chris Fox and Detroit Cass Tech cornerback Jourdan Lewis were named to the West team. In addition, U-M's top remaining target, Richmond (Va.) Hermitage five-star running back Derrick Green, played for the East team. In the game, Green was the biggest standout among the five players of note. He rushed eight times for 48 yards, averaging a game-best 6.0 yards per carry. Only Florida commitment Derrick Henry had a more productive rushing day, scoring a touchdown and notching 53 yards on two more carries than Green. As far as Green's recruitment, he is planning to make his college decision Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. Michigan is considered the favorite, and adding Rivals.com's No. 1 running back and No. 8 overall player nationally will be a huge boast to the Wolverines' recruiting. In the secondary, Thomas made two assisted tackles for the East. He was part of a secondary that held a quartet of West quarterbacks to 7‑of‑20 passing for only 71 yards. Lewis made one solo tackle for the West, and was part of a unit that held East quarterbacks to 8-of-14 passing for only 86 yards. Butt participated in the first two days of East practices, but suffered an ankle injury and was unable to participate in the bowl itself.
