FEBRUARY 2019 27 event recap Wahoo fans proudly represented UVA in Char- lotte for the Belk Bowl and attended various activities around the game. The weekend was highlighted by an exciting 28-0 shutout victory over South Carolina! In addition to the football game, the bowl festivities included a game-day Fan Fest. There were also events organized by Virginia Athletics Foundation and the University Advancement's Office of Engagement specifically for UVA fans and alumni. VAF partnered with the Office of Engagement on the game-day Cavalier Countdown Tailgate with over 900 attendees at BB&T Ballpark, a fun and unique atmosphere for the Hoos pregame gathering. The tailgate featured a barbecue menu, music, a brief Wahoo sendoff by UVA President Jim Ryan, Director of Athletics, Carla Williams, and VAF Executive Director Dirk Kat - stra. Festivities also included a surprise perfor- mance by Cavalier band members, cheerleaders and Cav Man. Many Hoos' fans squeezed in the Hornets vs. Nets game to support Joe Harris as well! The Office of Engagement hosted a More Than the Score: "Jefferson, Wine, and Democ- racy: A Tale of Aspirations and Frustrations" with Kathryn (Kay) Neeley, Associate Professor of Science, Technology & Society, School of Engineering and Applied Science (University of South Carolina '76, University of Virginia GSAS '79, '89, PAR '13). They also hosted a Wahoo Welcome Social at Founder's Hall the night before the game with music by Split Second Sound DJ, food and fan gear and a 3.5 mile run with President Jim Ryan. Many fans enjoyed the hospitality tables at the team hotel to register for events, pur - chased fan gear, took photo booth pictures and collected many UVA goodies. On game-day, orange and blue filled the sta- dium bowl and suites providing an energetic atmosphere for the football team.
