However, she didn't stop there. Collins, who entered the tournament ranked No. 35 in the world by the Women's Tennis Association, went on to advance all the way to the semifi‑ nals. She defeated No. 123 Sachia Vick‑ ery 6‑3, 7‑5 in the round of 64, topped No. 19 Caroline Garcia 6‑3, 6‑2 in the round of 32, upset No. 2 Angelique Ker‑ ber 6‑0, 6‑2 in the round of 16 and beat No. 44 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 2‑6, 7‑5, 6‑1 in the quarterfinals. Collins — only the second former col‑ legiate player in 23 years to make the semifinals at a major — fell to No. 8 Petra Kvitová 5‑7, 0‑6 to end her story‑ book run. KYLE GUY • BASKETBALL The third‑year guard was named the ACC Player of the Week Jan. 7, after averaging 25.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game to help Virginia post wins against Mar‑ shall (100‑64) and then‑No. 9 Florida State (65‑52). The 6‑2 sharpshooter set a UVA school record with 11 consecu‑ tive three‑pointers over the two‑game span. Guy tallied career highs in points (30), rebounds (eight) and three‑pointers (seven) against Marshall. Through Jan. 25, he led the ACC in both three‑ point shooting percentage (45.4) and three‑pointers made per game (3.0). JACK MUELLER • WRESTLING The third‑year planned to redshirt this season and focus on Novem‑ ber's U‑23 World Cham‑ pionships. However, head coach Steve Garland said "the team needed him" against No. 6 Mis‑ souri Dec. 20 — and the All‑American called it an easy decision to return. He drops back down to 125 pounds, where he placed sixth nationally in 2017, from 133, where he competed last season. As of Jan. 24, Mueller was 10‑0 with every win earning his team bonus points and was ranked No. 5 na‑ tionally by FloWrestling.
