28 CAVALIER CORNER I hope this Compliance Corner finds all our VAF members celebrating the Belk Bowl victory and having a fantastic start to 2019! As we embark on the 2019 year, I write to give you a preview of the NCAA Autonomy proposals that will be voted on at the 2019 NCAA Convention on January 24, 2019. The Autonomy membership will vote on 11 proposals and one resolution. A breakdown of the proposals by NCAA bylaw and how many proposals exist within those bylaws are listed below: • NCAA Bylaw 11/Conduct and Employment of Ath - letics Personnel-one; • NCAA Bylaw 13/Recruiting-six; • NCAA Bylaw 16/Awards, Benefits and Expenses for Enrolled Student-Athletes-two; • NCAA Bylaw 17/Playing and Practice Seasons-one; • Multiple Bylaws-one. The one resolution that will be voted on involves NCAA Bylaw 12/Amateurism. The resolution will seek the Au - tonomy membership to examine issues related to agents and advisors, redefine rules concerning agents and advi- sors and adopt legislation in this area to assist student- athletes with career planning and decision making. The resolution would require proposals to be acted upon at the 2020 NCAA Convention. For a proposal to be adopted by the 65-school Au- tonomy membership, one of the two voting scenarios must occur: 1. 48 schools and a majority of three Autonomy con- ferences must vote for the proposals; or, 2. 41 schools and a majority of four Autonomy confer- ences must vote for the proposals. In the next Compliance Corner, I will provide a closer look into the proposals that were adopted. Happy New Year and Go HOOS! 2019 NCAA Convention Overview Eric Baumgartner, Associate Athletics Director for Compliance compliance corner event recap Men's Basketball Reunion On Saturday, January 5, over 100 UVA men's basketball alumni, managers and their family members returned to Charlottesville for the 2019 Men's Basketball Reunion. The weekend revolved around the matchup vs. Florida State, Virginia's first ACC game of the 2018-19 season. Our Hoos family witnessed an exciting 65-52 victory over the No. 9 team and were able to watch every team member on the bench play as Virginia led by as many as 29 with a few min - utes left on the clock. Virginia is 10-0 in ACC openers under head coach Tony Bennett! Following the game, the reunion reception was hosted in the student-athlete dining hall at John Paul Jones Arena. The men's basketball staff stopped by the reception to mingle with alumni and share their appreciation. Coach Bennett formally addressed the group to thank everyone for their loyal support of the program and provided highlights from the win and re - markable season so far. 28 CAVALIER CORNER Head Men's Basketball Coach Tony Bennett thanking those in attendance.
