coach Red Berenson said. "We got a break around the net [on the game-tying
goal] and then our team really caught fire. The feeling was, we knew this could
be our last game. We didn't talk about that, but we felt it and we didn't want
our season to end this way."
Like he had two nights earlier, Helminen was pivotal to the cause, tallying the
game-tying goal early in the third while he put his defensive prowess to good
work when he helped kill off a late five-on-three that became a six-on-three
after Nebraska pulled its goalie.
Helminen worked tirelessly to prevent a solid chance and was rewarded for
his efforts when he finished UNO off with an empty-net goal.
"That was heart-attack hockey," Berenson said. "This series felt like it took a
month and the last five minutes took a week. Dwight played very well; he was
huge.
"A lot of guys talked about stepping up, but he did it."
