women's basketball awarded second-team All-Big Ten honors by the coaches and media. Senior point guard Jenny Ryan earned third-team All-Big Ten recognition. It was the first time since the 2001‑02 season that two or more Wolverines were given first-, second- or third-team All-Big Ten accolades (LeeAnn Bies and Alayne Ingram, both second-team). In fact, the Wolverines have been all but forgotten during the postseason awards ceremonies in the last decade. Between the year Bies and Ingram appeared on the All-Big Ten second team together and now, just three Michigan players made the teams: center Jennifer Smith in 2004 (first team by media, second team by coaches); forward Carly Benson in 2008 (third team by coaches); and guard Veronica Hicks in 2011 (third team by media). So, having two players recognized among the best in the Big Ten is big for the program, both in perception and reality. The Wolverines also had two players receive All-Big Ten honorable mention recognition. Senior center Rachel Sheffer was pegged by both the coaches and media, while senior forward Nya Jordan was picked by the media. Thompson was a unanimous second-team selection this year after becoming the Wolverines' most reliable offensive weapon and a deadly threepoint shooter. Thompson finished the regular season as the No. 2 player nationally in three-pointers made, sinking 3.45 per game. She also ranked No. 25 nationally in three-point shooting accuracy (39.1 percent). Her 107 three-pointers in one season set a program record, and she also led the team in scoring (14.5 points per game). Penn State junior guard Maggie Lucas was the unanimous Big Ten Player of the Year after leading the Nittany Lions to the regular-season conference championship and ranking 13th nationally in scoring (20.5 points per game). The coaches and media were split on the Coach Of The Year. The coaches gave it to Nebraska's Connie Yori, who led the Cornhuskers to a second-place finish in the conference, and the media awarded Penn State's Coquese Washington. U-M Senior Class Makes History On Senior Night With less than a second remaining on the clock, and her last game in Crisler Center coming to a close, senior point guard Jenny Ryan stepped to the free throw line to ice a 55‑50 victory over Northwestern on Senior Night Feb. 28. She sunk the first, sealing the win. The second — her final shot in The House That Cazzie Built — swished through, and she slowly walked, almost as if in a daze, away from the charity stripe and the frantic, fleeting efforts of the Northwestern offense, toward first-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico. As the final buzzer sounded, the two shared a long hug. "Going into my last free throw, I
