"The transition from club to big-time Division I is not going happen overnight. It's just a matter of getting the manpower in. It's just a numbers deal right now where they're behind these other programs obviously, and that's going to take two, three, four more recruit‑ ing classes." The talent deficit has been obvious. That's a product of the immediate promotion of the club program to the varsity level. U-M has a shortage of players with Division I talent. "My feeling is that because of the fact that they chose to elevate the club team instead of starting the pro‑ gram with a varsity roster, they put themselves in a pretty tough posi‑ tion to be successful quickly," Inside Lacrosse associate editor Terry Foy said.
