from our readers Drake Harris priority number one and offer him the No. 1 jersey. He is the best at his position in-state in over a decade. Another speedy wideout and some great defensive ends and the 2014 class should qualitatively be the best yet. Kevin G. Smith Orange, Calif. They are stocking up, Kevin G., and here's a hunch that at least one of the incoming crop of rookie receivers surprises in a big way. And, of course, the better they run the football, the more open those players will become. Ready For Gardner Dear The Wolverine: I have been a diehard Michigan Wolverines football fan for the last 20 years in Columbus, Ohio. Believe me, I have heard plenty of words from Ohio fans for years and was hoping in the Brady Hoke coaching era we would have our own bragging rights I could throw back at all the Ohio fans I listen to daily. One of the biggest questions I had for the last two years was how good of a quarterback Denard Robinson really was. I think I got my answer this year. I have told everyone Devin Gardner was the man and should have been starting the last two years. I understand we did have a great season last year, but you never know what might have happened with even more positive playing for Gardner and giving him another year of the starting position coming into this season. I have never been a fan of the runfirst quarterback and believe me, that's Denard. Gardner is more of the pocket passer with the ability to run when needed. Look how good he was this year, and he didn't even start that many games. I can understand losing the Alabama game. We could have had Tom Brady in there, and I still think we would have lost. But that is the only loss I see we couldn't help this whole season. Look at the Notre Dame game. Denard threw so many interceptions I lost count. Our defense looked great — no questions at all with them. Why didn't Hoke pull Robinson and put in Gardner? What's the worst that can happen — we get beat. Last time I looked that happened anyways, and it was based on all the interceptions thrown by Robinson. Next the Nebraska game — this one really is a head scratcher. Let's see, Denard gets hurt so what does Michigan do but put a freshman quarterback in there to fill his spot. Gardner is out there at receiver, but we don't have anyone to throw to him so he might as well have just sat down on the field and waited until fourth down came around and walked to the sideline. Last but not least, the Ohio game. Gardner starts, we outplay Ohio the first half all over the field and have the lead. Everything looks good, then it's like Jim Tressel ball used to be — get up by one point and run
