12 THE WOLVERINE OCTOBER 2019 INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL BY THE NUMBERS QB chosen as the NFL's best ever in an ESPN.com story done Aug. 21 to celebrate the NFL's 100th season that included "surveying more than 250 people, including players, coach, scouts, general managers, Hall of Famers and Hall of Fame voters." That field general was Tom Brady. "This is, unsurprisingly, the most difficult position to pick just one player," they wrote. "But Brady is a 14-time Pro Bowl selection and a six-time Super Bowl winner on teams that will feature far fewer Hall of Famers than those of many of the other marquee quarterbacks. He threw for 4,355 yards and won a Super Bowl at age 41, played his best in the biggest moments and has been the driving on-field force for teams that have won at least 12 games 11 times." Two other U-M alums were included in the article, including wideout Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch, who was listed as a 'Remember When' after Jerry Rice and Don Hutson, and cornerback Charles Woodson, who was listed as a 'Start The Argument With' at cornerback, following Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson. "Michigan wins. One of the things I really like about [head coach Jim] Har- baugh. He teases lesser teams. Makes them feel like they have a chance. Then he pulls it out really late in the game. The great ones can do that. More later …" — FOX Sports TV/radio host Colin Cowherd on Twitter following U-M's 24-21, double-overtime victory over Army Sept. 7 4th Was where Ann Arbor ranked in a SI.com countdown of college foot- ball's Greatest College Towns. "The University of Michigan itself is one of the most picturesque college campuses in America, and the town surrounding it offers great food, festivals and museums," they wrote. "Ann Arbor boasts tons of parks, and outdoor activities are easy to come by in the warmer months. In the fall and winter, Michigan football and basketball are enough to keep even a reluctant sports fan entertained. Plus, the town is just a quick drive away from Detroit and all the benefits of a larger city."
