46 THE WOLVERINE OCTOBER 2019 BY EJ HOLLAND M ichigan opened up the season with important victories over Middle Tennessee State and Army. Several highly touted recruits took in the games and enjoyed their time in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines are still looking to fill a couple of voids in the 2020 recruiting class, and played host to two of the most important remaining targets in five-star Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian offensive lineman Myles Hinton and four-star Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton wide receiver Brenden Rice. Hinton, the brother of Michigan freshman defensive lineman Chris Hinton, is committed to Stanford. However, the Wolverines are still making their push. It wouldn't be surprising to see him return to The Big House for another game this season. Flipping the nation's No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 26 overall prospect will be tough, but the door is not completely shut. U-M was thought to be the frontrun- ner for Rice, and while he loved the at- mosphere during the season opener, it appears the Wolverines are losing trac- tion. Playing closer to home is appeal- ing to Rice, and Colorado has made a huge surge in his recruitment. Arizona State and Oregon are also in the mix for the nation's No. 51 wideout. Several top targets in the 2021 class also made their way to Michigan for the first two home games of the year, especially along the offensive line. The biggest of them all may have been Rocco Spindler. The Clarkston (Mich.) High product actually plans to be at U-M three more times before the end of the year, and it's safe to say the Wolverines are out in front early on for Rivals' No. 3 offensive guard and No. 82 overall prospect in the junior class. A pair of Rivals250 offensive line- men made their way to campus as well in Fairfax (Va.) Robinson's Tristan Leigh and Oak Park (Mich.) High's Rayshaun Benny. Both have Michigan in their top group early on. Leigh is listed by Rivals as the No. 164 junior in the land, while Benny checks in at No. 179. Beverly Hills (Mich.) Country Day offensive lineman Caleb Tiernan may be unranked, but at 6-8, 260 pounds, he is one of the more intriguing targets for next cycle. The Wolverines have of- fered and are out to an early lead. His trip for the contest against Army was his first-ever U-M game experience. The first two game-day visit week- ends of the year resulted in two new offers on the defensive side of the ball with the Wolverines extending schol- arships to four-star 2021 Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood linebacker Bran- den Jennings and rising 2021 Elkhart (Ind.) Central defensive end Rodney McGraw. Jennings is listed No. 49 in the junior class by Rivals, while Mc- Graw is currently unranked. A number of U-M commits have been on hand to see the Wolverines in action, including 2020 pledges Cornell Wheeler, Makari Paige and Braiden McGregor, as well as 2021 verbals JJ McCarthy and Giovanni El-Hadi. All have been hard at work helping Michigan recruit.   MICHIGAN RECRUITING Wolverines Host Several Talented Recruits At First Two Games Five-star offensive tackle Myles Hinton, the younger brother of U-M freshman defensive lineman Chris Hinton, is one of the Wolverines' top remaining targets in the 2020 class, but he is currently committed to Stanford.
