OCTOBER 2019 THE WOLVERINE 5   FROM OUR READERS If players continue to play while con- tinuing to fail at maintaining ball secu- rity, then this is a coaching failure. Hope we get this figured out over the bye week. Enough talk. Let's do it. neillz • Sometimes I think Michigan is really just holding stuff back for Big Ten play. At other times I think they are simply not proficient with a majority of the offense. To me it seems like we haven't even seen the quick game (short pass- ing game) or any of the extensions off some of the run action we've seen. But it also seems to me we need to get more work in when the bullets are live, and that holding stuff back simply makes us less proficient down the road. All spread teams run similar stuff, so why hold things back at all? The Big D • Of all the schools that Big Ten teams have played through the first two weeks of the season, who is the best opponent? Is it crazy to say Army is the best? Syracuse (Maryland), Colorado (Ne- braska) and Stanford (Northwestern) are certainly in the conversation. Chitown Blue • Army is the most difficult team to prepare for. johnmo On the football team using helmet stickers under Jim Harbaugh … • I prefer the plain helmet without them. I don't think this is a "get off my lawn" thing either way since the program has gone back and forth on this over the years. mark78 • On topics I have given little thought to, the best fallback position is, if it was good enough for Bo Schembechler, it's good enough for me. I doubt they make a kid play better, but it makes Jim Harbaugh happy, and he came from the Bo era. idancer • I like them. I even added them to my Hover Helmet and it really looks neat. Wolverine53 On Juwan Howard and the Wolver- ines hosting several highly ranked basketball recruits and being men- tioned among their finalist groups … • Given how late he started recruiting, Juwan is doing incredibly well. Pretty much all of our competition had a two- or three-year head start on these 2020 kids. That we're finalists for so many top recruits under these circumstances is absolutely astonishing, whether we wind up with any or not. John Beilein left us up a creek with no paddle. Juwan's found new paddles and has us back in the creek. Just give him time. And don't worry, be happy. thecapper • Michigan has to play games before it moves into the front for anyone. How- ard will eventually start getting five- stars, but he has to coach games so they can see his team play first. thedude2403 • I hope all these recruits aren't look- ing for Michigan to be a top-10 team this year. We lost a lot and have some holes with primary and secondary scor- ers lacking. GuachoCass • I think their ceiling is fringe top 10. The issue is their floor is lower than most recent U-M teams. But getting Franz Wagner was huge. He has the potential to be a great player at some point during the season. pickles24 • That floor has a lot to do with the uncertainty of the new staff, but I agree. There's talent on the team and great leadership. Hope it all comes to- gether. MGO_Clayton Coordinator Don Brown and his defense have been put in tough positions by offensive turn- overs, but he has not lost any confidence in his group. PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL Men's basketball coach Juwan Howard has hosted several high-profile recruits on official visits already, including five-stars Nimari Burnett, Jaden Springer and Walker Kessler.
