26 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY MATT CARTER A bout the only Wolfpack fans happy on March 17, 2019 were those attending the Mumford & Sons concert at PNC Arena that evening. The show brought a brief respite from the somber reality that hit them just a couple hours before: NC State's bubble had burst. It would not be going to the NCAA Tournament and instead would play in the NIT. The consolation ended up being a fun one. It featured three games in Reyn- olds Coliseum that rekindled the energy that only the Old Barn can bring, and a positive result is that NCSU has added a second home game this regular season in that building. But that was a small consolation from the sting of not making the NCAA Tour- nament despite a 21-10 overall record and a 9-9 mark in arguably the top confer- ence in the country. Some of the players remaining from that team still remember what it was like on Selection Sunday. "Everybody on the team was just down, wondering, trying to find out why we didn't make it," senior guard Markell Johnson said. "We were disappointed," junior guard Braxton Beverly confirmed. "That was not what we wanted and what we thought we were going to get. We tried to make the most of it. We got to play three great games in Reynolds, with a great atmo- sphere. "We still got something out of it, just not what we wanted." ON A MISSION NC State Aims To Return To The NCAA Tournament BASKETBALL PREVIEW 2019-20
