BASKETBALL PREVIEW 2019-20 JERICOLE HELLEMS 4 So. • St. Louis • 6-7 • 205 F ANALYSIS Hellems had the typical ups and downs of a freshman a year ago, but flashed his potential as the ideal power forward in head coach Kevin Keatts' system, which essentially plays two guards and two wings with a post player. His size on the perimeter fits that well. He has the potential to be a good shooter and should be more comfortable in the ACC in year two. CAREER HIGHLIGHTS Came off the bench in all 36 games as a rookie and averaged 13.6 minutes per game … Scored a career-high 16 points in wins over Western Carolina and Loyola (Md.) … Had 14 points in a home victory over Wake Forest … Averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game at powerful Chaminade High School as a senior, while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 43.2 percent (54 of 125) from three-point range … Was named to the USA Today All-Missouri first team… Rivals.com rated him as a four-star recruit, and the No. 34 small forward and No. 130 overall player in the country … Picked NC State after also taking an official visit to South Carolina. PERSONAL Son of Elizabeth Squibb and Torano Hellems … Has a brother … Birthday is Oct. 6. 22 Head coach Kevin Keatts likes it when he can put a lineup on the floor that can stretch the defense in the half court, and Hellems is capable of doing that. Last season, he made 22 three-pointers, includ- ing eight in ACC play. He was a strong shooter from beyond the arc in high school and figures to improve on his three-point shooting in year two at NC State.
