98 ■ THE WOLFPACKER WOLFPACK FOOTBALL injury and has not yet returned through the Syracuse contest. • A week later against Western Caro- lina, fifth-year senior defensive end James Smith-Williams, another starter and team captain, suffered a leg injury that cost him two games. • In week three at West Virginia, redshirt junior starting tight end Dylan Autenri- eth, yet another captain, suffered an injury that will sideline him for the remainder of the season. He had three receptions for 40 yards at the time. Autenrieth will join the Rileys in applying for a sixth season. • In week five at Florida State, redshirt freshman cornerback Taiyon Palmer, who had taken increased snaps after McCloud's injury, went down for the season. Also lost that week for an indefinite period of time were sophomore running back Ricky Person Jr. and redshirt junior right tackle Justin Witt. Person had started two games this year and had 50 rushes for 202 yards and two scores, while also catching six passes for 71 yards. Witt had started the first five games of the year at his position, and dat- ing back to a year ago had started 16 of the last 18 contests played by the Pack. • A week after that, junior corner Chris Ingram, who had started 18 straight games, went down with what appeared to be a significant knee injury in a Thursday night win over Syracuse, although the exact se- verity was not immediately known. Ingram had 33 tackles and led the Pack with four passes broken up and two interceptions at that time. — Matt Carter NC State Adds Future Football Opponent The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that NC State football would have a home-and- home series with Cincinnati, starting with the season opener in 2023 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. The Wolfpack will make the return trip to Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium on Sept. 15, 2029. The two teams have previously done a home-and-home, with both squads win- ning lopsided games at their respective stadiums. NC State won 30-19 in Raleigh in 2010, while Cincinnati crushed the Pack 44-14 a year later. The Bearcats went 5-1 through its first six games of 2019, including 2-0 in the American Athletic Conference, and was rated No. 21 in the country in both the As- sociated Press and coaches' polls Oct. 14. Its lone loss was at No. 4 Ohio State, and it snapped Central Florida's 19-game AAC winning streak with a 27-24 home win over the Knights Oct. 5. NC State's 2023 non-conference sched- ule is now complete. It will play Cincinnati Aug. 31, VMI in Raleigh Sept. 16 plus Notre Dame at Carter-Finley Stadium on a date to be determined. The Wolfpack will also travel to Con- necticut Sept. 23, although the future of the Huskies' football program might be in question after its decision to leave the AAC for the Big East, which does not have a Football Bowl Subdivision league. Connecticut's intention, for now, is to turn independent starting in 2020 on the gridiron. There are two more openings for non- conference opponents in 2029. NC State is scheduled to once again host Notre Dame that year. Next season will open with an ACC op- ponent, and head coach Dave Doeren noted that it could potentially be a Thursday night affair. In nonconference action, the Pack will host Mississippi State (Sept. 12), Dela- ware (Sept. 26) and Liberty (Nov. 21), and will travel to play at Troy Sept. 19.
