michigan hockey Hockey Rewind: season wrapup Record: 18-19-3 overall, 10-15-3 CCHA. National Ranking: No. 19. Pairwise Ranking: No. 27. Best Win — 5-1 over Western Michigan: Winning didn't come easy to the Wolverines in 2012-13, with Michigan compiling just eight victories in the first four months of the season. The Maize and Blue found their rhythm late, though, going 10-3-1 in February and March, including a playoff run that almost culminated in a CCHA championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. During that stretch of success, U-M scored a number of big wins, but its victory at Western Michigan to sweep the Broncos and clinch a CCHA quarterfinal series was the most impressive. Michigan led early but entered the first intermission tied 1-1 despite dominating in the shot department, 15‑3. In the second period, all of those chances began to find the back of the net; the Maize and Blue scored four times on 11 attempts, tallying four markers in a single period for just the third time all year. Worst Loss — 4-0 to Michigan Tech: There are a handful to choose from — Michigan lost nine games this season by three goals or more — but the loss to Michigan Tech in the first game of the Great Lakes Invitational was especially galling for two reasons. First, the Huskies were not a good team. MTU entered that matchup 4-10-3, mired in a seven-game winless streak (0‑4‑3), and it would finish 13-20-4. Secondly, the Wolverines were coming off their first shutout of the season (a 2-0 win over Western) and believed they were on the cusp of turning around their play. To add further insult, the loss marked the first to Tech since the 2000‑01 campaign, ending a 10game winning streak over the Huskies. Senior forward Kevin Lynch spearheaded MVP — Kevin Lynch: The senior U-M's late surge, contributing four goals was named an alternate captain by and six assists during a nine-game the coaches in November, overlooked unbeaten streak (8-0-1) at the end of the in the original balloting by his team- year. mates, but even before his sweater Photo by Lon horwedel
