women's basketball son Ristovksi (77) and sophomore forward Cyeesha Goree (10). The five seniors played a total of 146.5 minutes per game (out of a possible 200). Elmblad was a defensive specialist for the Wolverines this year. She started 32 games and played 29.0 minutes per game, by far the most of any nonsenior on the roster (Ristovski played 12.5 minutes per game). She averaged 5.4 rebounds per game and added 23 steals. Although the Wolverines must replace so much next season, Elmblad is looking forward to taking more of a leadership role — both on the court and off. "It's really exciting," Elmblad said. "I'm looking forward to getting the freshmen on campus this summer and to taking on more of a leadership role. I want to be someone who can be looked to for advice and step up to share some of my knowledge with the younger kids. "One of my biggest goals coming into this summer is working on my offensive skill set and to be more of a threat. I don't see it as pressure, but I do feel the responsibility to improve myself on that side of the floor. "We are losing a lot of scoring threats, but we have a lot of talent with our young players. For me, I feel like I will need to look to score more, but we're all going to be working on that this summer." Although the majority of the production from this year will be gone for the 2013-14 season, Elmblad thinks the steps the program took will carry over, while the Wolverines rebuild the roster. Best Win — 60-52 vs. Villanova: Before the NCAA Tournament, the Wolverines talked about not being satisfied with simply making the field of 64 — they wanted to do some damage during March Madness. And that's exactly what Michigan did, defeating the Wildcats. It was just the third time in program history that the Wolverines notched a victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (1990 and 2001). The eighth-seeded Wolverines employed a balanced offensive attack, with four seniors notching double-digit points: guard Kate Thompson (17), forward Rachel Sheffer (16), guard Jenny Ryan (13) and forward Nya Jordan (12). Sheffer also grabbed 13 rebounds to tally a double-double. First-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico has now advanced to the second round in each of her past five NCAA Tournament appearances (the last four with her former team, St. John's).
