Under the Dome Top of The Class Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Emilee Koerner — So., Softball The Irish outfielder had a firm grasp on the best batting average in the nation two weeks into April. Koerner hit .504 in her first 39 games this season, and the next closest average was .494. She led the Notre Dame team with 17 doubles and was tied for second with eight home runs. The California native is one of 25 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. Courtney Hurley — Sr., Fencing The two-time collegiate national champion finished her career at Notre Dame on top. Hurley won the NCAA women's epee championship in late March after starting the year with a bronze medal in the London Olympics. She beat Olympic teammate Susannah Scanlan (Princeton) to win the title. Irish freshman Lee Kiefer also won first place in the women's foil event. Notre Dame finished second as a team, seven points behind Princeton. Max Miller — Sr., Men's Lacrosse The senior defenseman made the final cut of 10 players on this year's list of Senior CLASS Award candidates. Miller, an honorable mention All-American as a junior, has been an anchor on the back end of Notre Dame's top-10 defense this season. He has a 3.2 GPA in finance and is a three-time Big East Academic All-Star. The winner of the award will be announced May 26. Anders Lee — Jr., Hockey The Irish captain was named Notre Dame's Team MVP this season and a second-team All-American following a win in the final CCHA Tournament. Lee scored 20 goals and tallied 18 assists in 41 games this season. He is the 12th Irish player to make the All-America team. He signed an NHL contract with the New York Islanders in March and scored a goal in the first period of his first professional game.
