The Irish con- verted all four third-down situations, most notably a 10-yard completion to McKinley on third-and-nine from the Irish 35-yard line. Book completed all seven of his passes on the march to four different receivers. Williams added a 19-yard run to Georgia Tech's 24-yard line. Feature Performer: Book com- pleted 9 of 10 passes for 80 yards, with McKinley nabbing three for 28 yards. Stats: Notre Dame outgained Geor- gia Tech 128-6 in total yards while possessing the ball 12:19 to 2:41. The main reason was converting all five third-down situations. Items: On Notre Dame's second series, Book lost a fumble on a sack near midfield, but a personal foul on Georgia Tech tackle Djimon Brooks instead gave the Irish a first down at the Yellow Jackets' 30-yard line with less than a minute left. The quarter ended with Notre Dame at Georgia Tech's 13-yard line. SECOND QUARTER NOTRE DAME, 17-7 Top Moment: On the first play of the second quarter, Williams swept to his left and was stripped of the ball by Georgia Tech safety Junayeh Thomas. Cornerback Zamari Wal- ton scooped up the loose ball and re- turned it for a school-record 93-yard touchdown at the 14:42 mark to tie the game, 7-7. Feature Performer: Junior safety Kyle Hamilton had two tackles for loss, the second coming on fourth- and-two from the Notre Dame 45- yard line in which he stopped run- ning back Jahmyr Gibbs six yards behind the line of scrimmage. That set up a 32-yard field goal by senior Jonathan Doerer with 1:49 left that extended the Irish lead to 17-7. Stats: Notre Dame dominated in total yardage 240 (141 rushing, 99 passing) to 66, and owned the ball 20:33 to 9:27. Items: After Georgia Tech's fumble return for a touchdown, Notre Dame answered with a 75-yard scoring drive that ended with Williams' two- yard run at the 10:47 mark. High- lights of the drive were a 13-yard pass to senior slot receiver Avery Davis with a 15-yard personal foul added to it, and a 21-yard jaunt by freshman running back Chris Tyree the play prior to Williams' score … Following Hamilton's stop, Notre Dame drove to a first down at the Yellow Jackets' 14-yard line but three straight incomplete passes limited it to the field goal by Doerer. THIRD QUARTER NOTRE DAME, 24-7 Top Moment: On the third play of the half, Georgia Tech freshman quarterback Jeff Sims connected with wideout Jalen Camp for a 39-yard gain to the Irish 22-yard line. But af- ter an offside by the Yellow Jackets, on the next play Hayes had a strip- Led by fifth-year senior defensive ends Ade Ogundeji (No. 91 ) and Daelin Hayes (No. 9), the Fighting Irish limited the Yellow Jackets to 238 yards of total offense while racking up five sacks and nine tackles for loss.
