A senior forward from Ac- cra, Ghana, Bloyou assisted on a goal by junior midfielder Andrew Privett in a 1-0 shutout of Michigan State on Oct. 1. That turned out to be just the warm-up. Four nights later at Rutgers, Bloyou scored in spectacular fashion on a point-blank header off a cross- ing pass from senior midfielder Pierre Reedy. Bloyou's goal helped propel Penn State to a 2-0 victory over the Scarlet Knights, and ESPN ranked it No. 2 on its "SportsCenter" Top 10 highlights. Through 13 games, Bloyou was tied for second in the Big Ten with two game- winning goals and tied for third with four assists. Sam Coffey — Women's Soccer Penn State's senior captain was daz- zling in a 5-1 victory over Maryland on Oct. 8. Coffey had a hat trick in the first half alone, scoring in the 18th, 27th and 39th minutes, and adding an assist in the second half to bring her Penn State career total in the latter category to 28, tied for eighth-best in school history. Coffey, who played her first two sea- sons at Boston College, had 52 career assists through Penn State's first 14 games this season and was the only ac- tive player in collegiate women's soccer with 50 or more assists. Named the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12, Coffey went into the final week of the regular season ranked third in the Big Ten in both goals (eight) and points (22). Evan Dorenkamp — Men's Cross Country A junior from Manheim Township, Pa., Dorenkamp claimed the first cross country victory of his collegiate career on Oct. 15, pacing the field at the Penn State National Open, which took place at the Blue and White Golf Courses. Do- re n ka m p f i n i s h e d the 5.2-mile course in 25 minutes, 26.9 seconds, edging Pitt's Jack Miller by less than a second. His effort was one of five top-30 finishes by the Nittany Lions, who placed second in the team stand- ings behind Cornell. "It was fantastic to see Evan pull off the win and the group finish in second place as a team," coach John Gondak said. Dorenkamp is a middle-distance standout for the Penn State track and field team who posted a 20th-place finish in the 800 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this past June. Sophia Gladieux — Field Hockey E i g h t h - ra n ke d Pe n n S ta te a n d fourth-ranked Northwestern were tied, 1-1, in double overtime on Oct. 3 when Gladieux put an end to the mar- a t h o n ga m e . Heading into the last two weeks of the regular season, Gladieux was leading the Big Ten in shots (76), was second in shots on goal (42), and ranked third in both goals (13) and points (28). — Matt Herb JOE KRENTZMAN & SON, INC. • Buyers and Brokers of Steel, Iron and Nonferrous Metals • Industrial Scrap Buyers • Container Service Available • Large Service Territory Since 1903 Lewistown, PA • Hollidaysburg, PA • DuBois, PA (800) 543-2000 • www.krentzman.net F irst i n S cra p PENN STATE'S TOP PERFORMERS
