Perhaps the prospect of playing with his brother sweetens the pot. —bsnyds39 James Franklin's continued deference to fifth- and sixth-year seniors is not a good thing for recruiting and building quality depth at any position, but especially at quarterback. So, you could say I am not a fan of a sixth year for Clifford. —pioneerlion83 You couldn't be more wrong. Having Clifford back with the two incoming freshmen behind him is the ideal situation. I don't want to travel to Auburn to watch us get smoked because we have a new inexperienced quarterback starting. —WJL I think Drew Allar might be the best QB recruit we've had in the past 20 years. I think he is something very special. He'll probably need a year to adjust, but with an early enrollment, I think he plans on competing in 2022. —dmdpsu So what's the difference between landing a transfer or Clifford staying? It's still someone to play in front of the two true freshmen. Personally, I think having that "bridge" — be it Clifford or a transfer — is the best-case scenario. Drew Allar and Beau Pribula will know that one of them will be THE MAN in 2023 and beyond. —MarkPSU Why do we need a transfer? Caleb Williams is killing it [at Oklahoma], as did a number of other freshmen through the years. I'm fine rolling with either of the two freshmen. —Richie83 I don't see a scenario where Clifford returns. I like the idea of a portal transfer, but I have my doubts that we get one. I predict Ta'Quan Roberson starts the season, with either Allar or Pribula working in. —j4golf ON THE 2022 NFL DRAFT … Bobby Engram, Allen Robinson, Chris Godwin. What do they have in common? That they are all PSU grads who have made the Pro Bowl at wide receiver in the NFL? Yes, but also that none were first-rounders. Maybe we should slow down a little on Jahan Dotson being taken in round one. —tjp013 I think once pro scouts analyze Jaquan Brisker's game tape, you will see his name rising substantially on mock draft boards. Modern safeties need to cover and tackle, and Brisker has shown an ability to do both. I easily can see JB being a guy who gets picked late first/early second and is starting on Sundays by this time next year. —Eagleye5 Brandon Smith isn't in Micah Parsons' league yet. He would benefit from another year playing inside linebacker [at the college level]. He could jump from a mid-rounder to a late-first/early-second pick. We'll see how he plays in the second half of the season. —Biffkin It will be interesting to see where PJ Mustipher ends up after his injury. I think Dotson, Brisker and Ra- sheed Walker will be first-rounders. Brandon Smith right now probably is top 75. I'm not sure how to grade him. —psurock379 ON PENN STATE'S OFFENSE ... I wish the pistol became a part of the offense (can still run plenty of RPO). Much easier to run given that it opens up both sides of the field/cutback lanes and it's more reactive over the RPO reading concepts. Our running game is too slow to develop among other things. I believe more pistol would help. —Tweb26 NOVEMBER 2021/VOL. 37, NO. 3 MANAGING EDITOR Matt Herb CONTRIBUTING EDITORS Ryan Tice, Mark Panus WEBSITE EDITOR Nate Bauer STAFF WRITERS David Eckert, Greg Pickel RECRUITING REPORTER Ryan Snyder FOOTBALL ANALYST Thomas Frank Carr CONTRIBUTING WRITERS Phil Grosz, Lou Prato PHOTOGRAPHY Bill Anderson, Steve Manuel, Mark Selders COVER PHOTO Mark Selders/Penn State Athletics DESIGN Jeanette Blankenship, Chris Miller F F F PUBLISHER Stu Coman BUSINESS MANAGER Linda Autry ADVERTISING SALES/MARKETING Michelle DeLee-Hamilton 877-630-8768 CIRCULATION MANAGER Beverly Taylor CUSTOMER SERVICE Sarah Boone, Cathy Jones, Laura Thornton 800-421-7751 BLUE WHITE ILLUSTRATED (USPS 742-550) is published monthly, except June, by Coman Publishing Company, 905 W Main St, Ste 24F, Durham, NC 27701-2076.
