Philly Lineman Jon Runyan Jr.
Has A Familiar Name And Game
Only 15 and a rising junior, Runyan is a 6-4, 250-pound offensive lineman.
In many ways, Brady Hoke's
coaching staff at Michigan is a throw‑
back to a bygone era of U‑M foot‑
ball. The Wolverines have eschewed
the spread offense preferred by the
previous coaching staff and returned
to an under-center power running
game. More importantly, defensive
coordinator Greg Mattison has re‑
stored order on that side of the ball,
and U‑M plans to win in the trenches.
In many ways, Jon Runyan Jr. is
another throwback — but of a differ‑
ent variety. Michigan fans will rec‑

ognize the name — he is the son of
the former All-American Wolverine.
Jon Sr. played in Ann Arbor from
1992‑95, and enjoyed a 14-year NFL
career before transitioning to a life in
politics. He currently represents New
Jersey's Third congressional district
in the U.S. House of Representatives.
After picking up a Michigan offer
at the Wolverine Technique School
June 17, Jon Jr. waited barely more
than a week to pledge for the Wolver‑
ines June 25.
