where are they now? 1995, spending months alongside and learning from the great Barry Sanders. He spurned offers to play in the Arena and World Leagues to pursue a career in teaching after spending the 1997 season as strength coach Mike Gittleson's graduate assistant, earning a national championship ring. Two years later, after earning his teaching certificate and M.A. in education administration at Northeastern Illinois University, he moved to Chicago and started his teaching career at Taft High School. He and his family moved to the suburbs of Columbia, S.C., after a decade, where they now live with their two children. He is continuing his career as an assistant principal and high school teacher in Richland School District One. "We're two hours and change from Myrtle Beach, not far from Hilton Head and an hour and a half from the mountains," Davis said. "It's a good spot and an interesting place, feels like one big suburb. "Life is slower here, but my boys love it and my wife's family is down here." The climate's not so bad, either, though he never minded the cold weather during his playing days. He still gets to watch every Michigan game on TV, and he and several of his former teammates kept the streak alive when they watched the Michigan State game on an iPad from the back of the reception at former teammate and linebacker Jarrett Irons' wedding. He's happy to be called a Michigan Man for life. "I had my shots, got my chances to do my things, and there are things that cannot be taken away from me, either," he said. "There were good moments for me there. I wouldn't change a thing." ❑
